VOLUNTEERS NEEDED


Forestry Advisory Board Volunteer

The City of Guthrie is requesting applications for persons interested in volunteering to serve on the Forestry Advisory Board.  All Board and Commission appointments require residency within the City of Guthrie. This volunteer will be appointed at-large by the Mayor with approval of the City Council.
The Forestry Advisory Board serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council on issues regarding the City's development of a community forestry plan and improvement of the urban forest resources within the City. Applicants are chosen based on interest and/or expertise in urban forestry. The Board meets bi-monthly.

Applications are available in the City Manager's office, 3rd floor of City Hall, 101 N. Second St., Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Board of Adjustments

The City of Guthrie is requesting applications for persons interested in volunteering to serve on the Board of Adjustment. For consideration, applicants must reside within the City of Guthrie; the position will be appointed at-large by the Mayor with approval of the City Council. The Board of Adjustment will review appeals in the enforcement of the zoning ordinance. Applications are available in the Planning Department, 2nd floor, City Hall, 101 N. 2nd St.

ADA Advisory Committee

The City of Guthrie is now accepting applications to serve on its newly formed ADA Advisory Committee. Meeting times will be held on a designated day and time on a monthly basis, and will be coordinated based on schedule of new board members. Apply today!

Must be a resident living within Guthrie City Limits for at least one year.  No individual is eligible to serve on more than two (2) City of Guthrie Boards or Commissions at any one point in time.

The Guthrie City Council established the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Advisory Committee October of 2017 to serve the City as an advisory resource on all matters as it relates to Title II of the ADA.

The ADA was passed by congress in 1990. Title II of the ADA notes that state and local governments “cannot deny services to people with disabilities participation in programs or activities which are available to people without disabilities. In addition, public transportation systems, such as public transit buses, must be accessible to individuals with disabilities.”

The Committees goals and responsibilities include:
  • Provide advice, recommendations to improve accessibility, and identify accessibility needs and issues to new and existing programs, services, and facilities as it relates to Title II of the ADA.
  • Develop relationships with other organizations serving individuals with disabilities as identified by the ADA and actively engage in education and outreach activities as it relates to Title II of the ADA.
  • Annually develop a work plan consisting of goals and objectives for the Committee to pursue.
  • Provide opportunities for the public to comment on alternatives and proposals related to accessibility improvements under consideration and disseminate information to all interested, affected, and/or concerned groups and citizens about plans or decisions related to the Committee’s work.
  • Monitor ADA complaints and direct them to the appropriate agencies and staff (staff for Title II issues and Civil Rights for Title III issues).
  • Seek out opportunities to discuss issues of accessibility with residents and familiarize themselves with the range of public opinion.
  • Consider any issue brought before it by the public that directly relates to issues of accessibility or the ADA.
  • Familiarize themselves with the ADA and status of existing City and County programs, services, and facilities.
  • Actively participate in the ADA Advisory Committee meetings, public information, and community involvement efforts.

Guthrie Park Board

The City of Guthrie is requesting applications for persons interested in volunteering to serve as a member of the Guthrie Park Board. The purpose of the Park Board is to serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council on matters pertaining to the Guthrie City Parks and Recreational areas. The Park Board is a 5-member board who serve 2-year staggered terms, and is appointed by the Mayor. Board members must reside within the Guthrie City Limits and have lived in Guthrie at least one year.  The Park Board meets bi-monthly at Guthrie Public Works Building; meeting information can be found here

GUTHRIE EDMOND REGIONAL AIRPORT BOARD

The City of Guthrie is requesting applications for persons interested in volunteering to serve as a board member for the Guthrie Edmond Regional Airport. one position is available. The applicant must be a resident of the City of Guthrie, Oklahoma and have an interest in aviation. The Board is an advisory board, having the duty and power to advise and recommend to the Council and City Manager with regard to airport matters. The Board may prepare such rules and regulations as may be deemed necessary for the management and care of the airport. Applications are available in the City Manager’s Office, 3rd floor, City Hall, 101 North 2nd Street. Interested persons may also apply online through the link below.

Planning Commission Volunteer

The City of Guthrie is requesting applications for persons interested in volunteering to serve on the Guthrie Planning Commission.  Applicants must reside within the City of Guthrie and will be appointed at-large by the City Council. The Planning Commission reviews and makes recommendation to the City Council on zoning codes, subdivision requirements, and land use as directed by the Comprehensive Plan. Applications are available online or may be printed and turned in to the Planning Department, 2nd floor of City Hall, 101 N. 2nd St., Guthrie.

Guthrie Historic Preservation Commission

The City of Guthrie has two positions on the Guthrie Historic Preservation Commission whose terms expire on March 31, 2020. Both current Commission members are eligible for re-appointment but new applicants are encourage to apply for consideration.  These positions will be appointed at-large by the Mayor through approval of the City Council.  One position is for a member of the Logan County Historical Society and the second position is for a member of the City of Guthrie Planning Commission. Qualified applicants must be residents of Guthrie.  Applications are available at or may be printed and turned in to the Planning/Community and Economic Development Department, 2nd floor of City Hall, 101 N. 2nd St., Guthrie.

Library Board

The Guthrie Public Library Board meets quarterly on the third Thursday of January, April, July, and October, and serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council on all matters concerning the Guthrie Public Library. Ordinance No. 2678 requires the Guthrie Library Board to consist of five (5) citizens of the City of Guthrie who have been residents within the corporate limits for at least one year. All members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by City Council. 

Responsibilities: 
- Establish the policies of the library. 
- Assist the director in administering the library through established board committees. 
- Engage in short and long-range planning for the library 
- Serve as library advocates by promoting the library at all times through their daily activities.
